I can't believe all the fuss over this Michael Phelps' picture. Who cares?!? This story is completely media driven as usual. The sports media is dying for something to talk about now that football is over, and this one is perfect.
No matter what your feelings are on the legality of marijuana, the reality is that there are a ton of professional athletes who are using it. I mean, come on. Probably 90% of NBA players are doing it, and I'd bet a huge percentage of NFL and MLB players as well. Why isn't there any outrage about any of those guys using marijuana?? Heck, the freaking Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes was caught earlier this year, and it was barely even a story. But when Michael Phelps does it, it's an international sensation that everyone freaks out about??
This story is primarily about race if you ask me. If Michael Phelps was black, would ANYONE be talking about this story?? No. But if a guy like Michael Phelps who has the "kid next door" appeal is caught, all heck breaks loose.
My god, get a grip. Is it a bad example for kids?? Yes, I think so, but it's hypocritical to rip Michael Phelps for it when there are professional athletes in every sport who are doing the same thing on a nightly basis.

Completely agree here. I don't know what the situation was at Notre Dame, but marijuana was rampant at my alma mater (Miami, OH) and no one even blinks an eye if you show up at a party and there is a water bong on the table. I'm sure every other normal college is the same way. The media is ridiculous. The kid shouldn't be getting his picture taken doing this stuff but he's 23 and deserves to live his life.
