Champs Sports Bowl - Wisconsin (7-5) vs. Florida State (8-4) (Florida Citrus Bowl Orlando December 27, 2008 4:30pm ESPN)

Tie Ins: ACC #4 vs Big Ten #4 or #5

Dan: FSU -5

These are two teams that I have generally been betting against all year. However, Wisconsin never really seemed to get on track (a late win against Minnesota and victories over Cal Poly and Indiana do not count). Meanwhile, FSU at least beat Va Tech, Clemson, and Maryland down the stretch. I don’t expect he Big 10 to perform well in the bowl games this year, and it will start with FSU taking it to Wisconsin.

Two teams that I never bought into this year. Ever since Wake completely embarrassed FSU in Tallahassee, I just couldn’t take the ‘Noles seriously. However, they have improved slightly over the course of the season while Wisconsin has totally unraveled. Brett Bielema might want to win a few more games next year. Being the guy who succeeds a legend rarely works out.

Wisconsin just has not been very good this year, as evidenced by their pedestrian record and their fluky home win over Cal Poly in their final game. Florida State should have great support from the crowd, given the venue, and the maturing Seminoles have a clear talent edge over the Badgers.

Doug: Florida State -5

Another pretty solid game here in terms of name recognition. Two of the more successful programs in college football over the last 15 years or so. I wouldn’t say either one of them is a power right now, but the names sound good on paper.

I am awfully leery of picking against Wisconsin considering that are underdogs every year in bowl games and always seem to cover/win, but Wisconsin simply stinks this year. They are honestly lucky to even be in a bowl game this year after almost losing to Minnesota and Cal Poly down the stretch.

Meanwhile, FSU has been up and down all year, but at least they have some good performances that they can hang their hat on. FSU has beaten Miami, Va Tech, Clemson, and Maryland, and all of those wins were relatively convincing wins. If they are up for this game, they should win. Plus, the game is in Orlando, so I’m expecting a bunch of FSU fans there. Wisky will probably get fans down there just for the weather, but it should be a borderline home game for the Noles.

I feel like I say this every year, but it’s another big bowl season for the Big 10 if they want to regain some level of credibility in the college football world. A win here by Wisconsin would be a good start for the Big 10 in the bowl season. With a lot of the Big 10 schools likely to be heavy underdogs (Penn State, OSU, MSU, Minny, and Northwestern), the Big 10 certainly has its work cut out this year.
